The Japanese Society for Quantitative Political Science held its winter meeting at Waseda University, Tokyo, from January 6-7, 2026. The meeting not only featured in-depth discussions on causal inference and political methodologies, but also showcased trends in quantitative methods on multiple political issues, including domestic and international politics, public opinion, economic and trade policies, party politics, and gender and group politics. In addition to the increasing use of conjoint experiments, the meeting discussed the advantages and challenges of different research designs. Together, these discussions highlight the expanding scope of quantitative political research, particularly with the growing integration of artificial intelligence into both substantive and methodological work.
